In 12 weeks, my team of four and I were given a project to create a concept or object that would assist astronauts on their journey to Mars.
As the character designer and concept artist of the team i was in charge of bringing our ideas to life and adjusting them when feedback was given. At the end of the 12th week Marti was born. An artificially intelligent friend and information/communication hub for astronauts.
After receiving feedback from the team about the initial sketches being too sci-fi and perfectly uncanny (symmetrical face and sharp outlines) i created more natural and comfortable sketches of Marti shown below.
Prototypes of Marti assisting astronauts in their day to day troubles.
The team thought it would make sense for Marti to be able to transform into an animal assistant since the astronauts wouldn't be able to bring their pets aboard i sketched out a few different animals and chose one that would be 'the face of' Marti.
MARTI - Device Development (2022)
Part of designing the look and feel of Marti herself i also sketched out the general shape and fitting for the device that would project Marti out into the world.
Testing out what the harness would like by prototyping it with laptop bag straps looping around a team member.
After the device was created from the 3D artist, i was tasked with creating variations of how Marti would be projected off the device
RANCID EDDIE - (2022)
Rancid Eddie is an Australian indie rock band from Mount Waverley, Victoria. I was contacted by Rancid Eddie to accept a commission for their new single cover art after I drew them on their couch during my freetime and shared it on social media.
The band gave me the keywords "sensual" and "tiger" to start my concept designs.I started loosely drawing several concepts based on this topic, and after some back and forth with the input, we settled on a sketch and got to work.
Rough designs of the background based around the overall mood the band was going for.
The band was happy with the result but was unsure about the various paths to pursue. They requested several renditions that would fit the song, and more mockups were created before the final artwork was selected and uploaded live to music streaming services.
The finished artwork on all music streaming platforms!
